    Overview

Walton’s Grizzly Lodge provides the ideal overnight summer camp experience for children ages 7–15. Located in the Sierras of Northern California, camp life centers around our private lake. Campers choose daily from over 40 activities including water sports, horseback riding, arts and crafts, athletics, archery and our extensive ropes course challenges which features a 500 foot zip line across our lake.

One of the most exciting aspects of camp life for our campers is deciding which of our many activities to choose from. Campers can go horseback riding along beautiful mountain trails, participate in our extensive ropes course program, fish in our private lake or play a wide variety of sports. For those who want to be on the water, we offer water skiing, wake boarding, stand up paddle boarding, swimming and boating. When campers want to take it easy they can choose from a wide variety of craft activities.

Our 60 acres of wooded land gives Walton's a setting that guarantees a rewarding camping experience for any child. Besides its natural beauty and features, Walton's is one of the best equipped camps in the nation. While many camps offer the use of a lake that is open to the public, Walton's is located on its own private lake. The lake and camp is surrounded by beautiful, tall pines.

Campers dine in our rustic, historic lodge and live in clean, comfortable, fully enclosed cabins equipped with electricity and complete bathroom and shower facilities. Campers share their cabin with 8 to 16 other campers and 2 to 4 counselors.

During our two week sessions, campers have the opportunity to go on an out of camp trip in the Plumas National Forest with their group. Depending on the age of the camper, the campout may be as close as across our lake, or far enough in the wilderness that campers backpack there. With trained staff to supervise, campers experience the outdoors up close. For many campers our out of camp trips open up a whole new world.

The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) aims to extend the Walton's Grizzly Lodge Summer Camp experience by allowing campers to connect with their natural environment, deepen friendships and build new skills in the wilderness. The Outdoor Adventure Program is a one-week backpacking program for 13-17 year old campers. Enrollment is limited to 16 campers who show leadership potential and are ready to handle the rigors of this adventurous week in the outdoors. The program consists of spending two days in camp and six days camping, hiking and backpacking. Leadership, Adventure and Environmental Stewardship will be emphasized. Highlights include team building activities upon arrival at Walton's, an in-depth exploration of the Lakes Basin area, backpacking on the Pacific Crest Trail, hiking various peaks and returning to Walton's where participants will have camp to themselves for a day.

**Our Regular Program is for new and returning campers 7 – 15 years old. If your child attended Walton's Grizzly Lodge last summer, turns 16 before June 1st and will have completed the 10th grade, he or she may be invited to apply for our CILT Program (Camper in Leadership Training). Letters of invitation, along with information about how to apply, are mailed October 1st. The CILT Program is a two-year program. First Year CILTs must turn 16 years old by June 1st and have completed the 10th grade. Second Year CILTs must have completed the first-year CILT Program. CILTs receive a 10% tuition discount. Special privileges are given to CILTs including first choice of activities, time at the Staff House and a special CILT Day Out.
