The human need for entertainment, both to entertain and to be entertained, dates back to prehistoric times.
Participants will explore the evolution of performance from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Their journey will encompass a variety of topics, including ancient rituals, established theatrical traditions, the intersection of theatre and revolution, diverse 20th-century theatrical movements, and gender consciousness and theatre from around the world.
Participants will engage with representative texts that align with these themes and work on creating summative presentations that delve into key questions within these areas. This exploration aims to deepen their understanding of how performance reflects and shapes human experience throughout history.
