    Overview

The Scots Science Scholars (S3) program provides financial aid and academic enrichment and support for select students who are interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) fields at Maryville College.

The goal of the Scots Science Scholars program is to increase the number of students completing a major in STEM at Maryville College. Selected students attend a two-week summer experience in August prior to the beginning of the academic year. Students live on campus and should have no other responsibilities during that time. Participants are also strongly encouraged to live on campus throughout the academic year. Scots Science Scholars are expected to participate in our academic support programming 6 hours per week during the academic year and to attend STEM enrichments events (expert lectures or field trips) each semester.

The four-year program includes the following components:

    • An all-expenses paid, on-campus, summer bridge program prior to the start of your freshman year designed to give you early practice with lab and math skills that are necessary in STEM fields
    • A curriculum designed to build community and provide academic support, including a specialized first-year sequence tailored to appeal to the interests and needs of S3 scholars
    • Access to the services provided by the LASER Center (Leveraging Advising, Support, Experience, and Research), including a structured work space for you and other STEM students to collaborate and receive academic support and continued opportunities to learn about careers and graduate school options.
    • Research/leadership experience that is integrated with the Maryville College curriculum, including many opportunities to begin research on exciting STEM projects with faculty at MC.
    • First year STEM- focused living-learning community.
    • All Scots Science Scholars receive merit scholarships of at least $22,000 toward MC tuition. This scholarship replaces a student’s MC merit scholarship (Scots Legacy, MC, Dean’s, Presidential)
