    Overview

Dive into the world of materials science and engineering at this free, week-long camp designed to inspire and educate future engineers. This immersive, hands-on program combines education and experimentation, offering campers a unique, team-based problem-solving experience.

Materials are the building blocks of civilization, and advancements in technology are driven by the materials available to us. Since materials science impacts nearly every aspect of engineering design, studying it provides a practical, real-world application of science and math concepts. At this camp, campers will gain valuable insights into the fascinating field of materials science, working with professional equipment and skills in a collaborative environment.

    Throughout the week, campers will:

    • Solve technical challenges in small teams, exploring the applications of engineering metals and ceramics
    • Engage in hands-on activities like tensile testing, electron microscopy, and creating slime and foam polymers
    • Participate in exciting group projects and design-build contests
    • Attend guest presentations from industry experts
    • Learn how materials science intersects with other disciplines, including chemistry, biology, physics, and more
    • Network with professionals and current Missouri S&T students to explore college and career paths

    Camp Activities Include:

    • Investigating and solving materials-related problems
    • Exploring various materials-related industries
    • Conducting laboratory work with state-of-the-art equipment, such as electron microscopes and heat treaters
    • Participating in daily hands-on challenges related to materials science
    • Engaging in group projects and design-build contests

This camp is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated students with an interest in math and science. With guidance from experienced engineering experts, campers will safely use cutting-edge research equipment and learn essential skills for their future careers.

    Application Deadline: May 1, 2025

Student Selection Process:This is a competitive application process. Students are asked to submit a 200-word personal statement explaining their interest in materials science and engineering and why they wish to pursue it as a potential college major and career.

Acceptance Notifications:Notifications will be sent by the end of May 2025 to the email address provided in the application. Be sure to check your email regularly! Accepted applicants will receive an online payment link to submit their registration and confirm their spot.
