    Overview

Purdue's Women in Engineering Program is proud to offer a variety of programs to youth in order to foster an interest in the field from a young age.

The Summer Engineering Workshops were designed to increase the pool of interested and qualified pre-college students for engineering study.

We offer 2 different workshops throughout the summer by grade level for 5-days each exposing students to engineering design, academic success strategies, engineering careers, engineering impact, college preparation, campus life, and life skills.

-Access Engineering: Access Engineering (AE) partners with local summer programs (K-8th grade residential and day camps), bringing hands-on engineering activities led by trained female engineering role models to summer programs based on our successful outreach model with afterschool programs for over 4 years. Through partnerships with organizations listed below, we anticipate that WIEP will impact over 1200 K-8th grade students in one summer! Depending on the camp format, we will visit some camps more than once with a different activity each time over the course of the summer. We will assess the impact of AE on students' perception of and familiarity with what engineers do as well as their perception of and interest in engineering before and after the AE program.

-Engineering FYI: Engineering FYI: For Your Imagination is an Online, Virtual Event designed to increase interest in engineering among rising 7-9th grade students (completed 6-8th grade by the summer of the event). This program is geared toward girls with an interest in engineering and allows you to apply your imagination and creativity as your assigned mentor virtually leads you through a hands-on project.
