Reset summer camp was wonderful for our 15 yo daughter. She was spending increasingly excessive time in front of screens despite our attempts to provide her with tools and coaching to take breaks and maintain interest in other activities, had largely retreated from society, was unwilling to try new things or foods, was developing an increasingly limited diet, and was losing her social skills. Reset summer camp got her out of her increasingly limited comfort zone in many ways! She developed friendships and sharpened her social skills, and developed some new interests there. The parent session over the last weekend was a great way for us to reconnect and develop new routines. We now have a routine of going to farmers markets, playing family games, have established a regular poker afternoon with friends, eating some new foods, participating in student council, and is planning to do tennis at school in the spring. While she still does spend more time than we'd like watching TV and such, we recognize that she will never be a social butterfly that has tons of activities. She has more balance in her life now - and her willingness to do more has inspired us to get out more as a family.

Reset Summer Camp had been on my list for a few months and I am so happy that I sent my son there. From the initial call with the therapist to determine whether it was a fit, to the final family weekend, where we got to see our son in action, Reset Summer Camp exceeded our expectations. This is not only about digitial detox, it is life skills. Michael, and his unique and carefully chosen team (of therapists and counselors) have an excellent program. Once kids arrive, they hand over their devices and get settled into their dorm rooms. They are involved in many ice breaker/engagement activities, mindfulness, independent living, sports and outdoor adventures. The life skills lessons were incredible. While we couldn't see our son week to week engaging, we are now seeing these life skills in action. Unprompted, he is doing his own laundry, taking care of hygiene, and with some prompting, cooking. We left camp with a contract which is critical to use to ensure that the good practices stay in place.
I highly recommend this camp to any parent/guardian whose child fits the profile.

Our son (14 now 15) attended this camp last summer in Santa Barbara when we were at our wits end on how to control his bad behavior when it came to moderating game and online gaming use. He was clearly exhibiting addictive behavior and was using gaming to self-medicate his anxiety stemming from his ADHD. Our son is Highly Gifted, has ADHD and Anxiety but is VERY social. Finding the right camp was an amazing struggle until we fell into this one, This was a PERFECT fit for him. Not only did he have a ton of fun that he forgot to write home most of the month...ergh, but he learned to do laundry, cook several tasty meals, how to regulate behavior in difficult situations (all the campers did, because there were a myriad of personalities attending, including girls - lol). At the end of camp he was s different kid, the one re remembered. Fun, witty, more cooperative and could keep a schedule much better. We made a family contract at the end of the program (took us 5 hours) to determine how we ALL were going to handle ALL types of technology in our home in a responsible and safe manner as we are not going to be able to turn off all technology, instead we had to learn how to handle it without letting it get in the way of family time, personal goals, and professional. and personal growth. This was the perfect, fun time for him to Reset but also for us to Reset as a married couple, to make plans on how it would be when he came home, and to get some well earned R&R for us so we could be ready for our new like when our camper got home. We liked the camp so much that he is returning, not because he is having behavioral problems, he is clearly way far ahead of where he was last summer, but it is a good, safe, fun camp where I am not worried that he will be homesick, have access to technology and to continue to improve his interpersonal skills. By the way, that's our son and me on the Video above :) If you want to talk to me about our experience, shoot me an email at lesliemorris100@gmail.com and we can arrange a time to chat.

    • I wanted to thank your staff once again as we are amazed at Aaron's transformation while at camp. I dont know if you remember the email I sent you before camp describing Aaron, and noted some of the concerns we had due to his low motivation for activities and his regular anxiety which seemed to be a big part of the issues we were concerned about. Since camp Aaron continues to thrive and seriously does not seem anxious any more on a regular basis. He appears more confident in doing things on his own and in dealing with others. While I know we all recognized Aaron may not have had true addiction issues he definitely escaped life via screen time and that time was he was always playing games in his phone in the car and any time he was bored, while eating breakfast before school etc. While we complained about the constant use we always got arguments and defensive responses and the behavior continued. Since camp he completely gets it and regulates himself in a very acceptable way, we dont have to scold or remind. He pays attention when in the car and notices other details of things he never would have noticed before. We see him excited about things and we did not see that before much at all. Even driving, he had taken drivers ed but did not spend any time investigating cars and what he might want that also completely changed. He had said he appreciates us many times out of the blue since coming back from camp, I had never heard those words from him before. I believe it was you your program and your amazing staff that deserve credit for this. I know if i had sent Aaron to a traditional camp for 4 weeks he would not have come home the way he did from your program.

    • Not only are you helping these young people foster their imaginations and see there's so much more in the world to offer them. But you're also helping them reconnect with their families. Thank you!

    • I'm so glad we found you this summer! Our son just loved camp. We've had positive changes at home, but more importantly, I think the positive memories he has of camp will help make him more mindful of his tech use as he matures and begins to navigate life as a young adult. Thank you so much for all you do for young people. From one teacher to another.
