The Rivers School Conservatory offers six summer day programs for students looking to grow their musical skills with like-minded peers and inspiring faculty artists.
2021 summer programs will take place in-person, with comprehensive safety measures in place and many classes taking place outside. We hope to see you there!
Summer Music (Classical)
Summer Music is a two-week program for wind, string, brass, and piano students entering grades 3-12. Participants receive individualized attention in private lessons, build essential skills in group classes, and experience the joy of musical collaboration in ensembles. Each session concludes with a performance.
Summer Jazz and Contemporary Music
Summer jazz and comtemporary music is a two-week immersion into a variety of musical styles for instrumentalists of all levels. Students are offered concentrated courses of study from ensemble playing and instrumental skills to improvisation and composition techniques. Classes include Intro to Jazz, Pop Harmony, and Rock Lab.
Junior Summer Music
Junior Summer Music is geared toward 6 to 10-year-old string, piano, and marimba/percussion students who are learning repertoire from Suzuki Books I and II, the Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook, or equivalent-level material. This session will include performance classes, group classes, and lessons with RSC faculty members.
Summer Orchestra
Get ready for the school year with a week-long program for string players of all levels! There are no pre-program auditions, and students are placed in one of three orchestras after playing on the first day. Each day includes rehearsals, sectionals, and a break. In one week, students learn repertoire and prepare for a final concert.
Summer Percussion Workshop
This week-long seminar is a perfect opportunity for percussion students to refine their playing skills through a combination of classes and private instruction. The daily schedule includes mallet ensemble, drum circle on hand percussion, improvisation, and master classes covering District audition repertoire on auxiliary percussion, mallets, snare, and timpani. The week concludes with a final concert.
Advanced Summer Jazz Ensembles
High school jazz musicians are invited to join an Advanced evening ensamble this summer. Rehearsals will take place twice per week over the course of each session. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a master class with a guest professor/artist. Each session will culminate with a final outdoor concert.
