Start your SCAD journey early with a pre-college program! Explore new avenues of artistic development and spark your imagination at The University for Creative Careers. SCAD offers pre-college programs during the summer and throughout the year for high school students of all ages to pursue art and design disciplines while working alongside peers from all over the world — and offer ideal opportunities for artists at all levels to create, learn, and grow.
SCAD offers two engaging pre-college programs to ignite your creativity, SCAD Summer Seminars and SCAD Rising Star.
SCAD Summer Seminars
SCAD Summer Seminars offers workshops for current freshmen, sophomore, and juniors in high school for the current school year. Participants gain valuable educational experience while developing their creative vision through intriguing art and design assignments and projects.
Participants attend workshops and have an all-access pass to the university's extensive resources and libraries. Workshops may include demonstrations, lectures, studio work, and local field trips, and are taught by SCAD professors, alumni, or select graduate students. To provide maximum individual attention and collaborative interaction between participants and instructors, class size is small, with generally 20 or fewer participants in each workshop. Organized daily social and cultural activities create an authentic experience of life as a student at SCAD.
There are four sessions available at our Savannah location and three sessions available at our Atlanta location. They both begin in June and end in July. To find out which one will work best for you, costs, how to sign up, and what you can expect from this amazing experience, check out our website.
SCAD Rising Star
This challenging four-week program awards college credit to rising high school seniors who are ready for a university experience. Students enroll in two college-level classes and have the opportunity to build or enhance their portfolios.
Whether attending in Savannah or Atlanta, all SCAD Rising Star participants utilize university spaces — from classrooms and computer labs to studios and production suites — in the development and completion of class assignments. SCAD libraries, galleries, and other resources are also available. Students participating in the residential program live in a SCAD residence hall, and all students enjoy meals at a SCAD dining hall.
SCAD Savannah and SCAD Atlanta offer different courses, so while the program is the same in either location, check the course offerings first to determine which location would be the best for you!
