    Overview

San Jose Public Library offers a variety of opportunities for teens to volunteer at its library branches. Youth volunteers ages 13-14 can acquire community service credits through Teens Reach, a youth council for the San José Public Library. Those ages 13-14 can also serve as Summer Learning Ambassadors for the Summer Learning Program. Teens Reach is optional but recommended for those age 15-17 who aim to become ongoing volunteers.

Summer Learning Ambassadors explain how the Summer Reading Challenge works, register children for the program and to award prizes, and help promote library activities and events during the summer reading program.

Ongoing volunteers ages 15-17 will be trained by library staff in professionalism and expectations, allowing teens to serve as public library representatives.
